PAT
In order to comply with the 1993 Health & Safety General
Applications Regulations it shall be the duty of every employer to
ensure that all equipment, throughout, its working life, is
adequately maintained.
What ETS will do.
Details of every appliance is noted and compiled onto your
equipment register.
Every piece of equipment will undergo a formal visual
inspection to verify compliance. It is then tested and
certified.
Tests
carried out on portable appliance equipment
include:
·A low resistance for
earth/bond continuity
·Insulation test (where
applicable)
·Dielectric strength (where
applicable)
·Earth leakage
measurement
·Polarity
Verification
·Load
current
·Functional
test
A label is then placed on the appliance indicating date of
checking, the appliance number and when the next test is due. This
label is bar-coded, which will enable the appliance to be read by
scanner on subsequent visits.
The test instrument will perform the relevant tests on each
appliance, therefore eliminating the danger of performing a test not
approved by the manufacturer. With this bar-code scanner system it
enables each appliances’ case history to be viewed and checked for
deterioration over its lifetime.
Results from the above tests are downloaded from the test
instrument onto our computer system and outputted onto test record
sheets. This information is then passed on to the customer, who has
the choice of a printed report and/or on floppy disc. In addition,
ETS also retains records of the
test.
Equipment that is found to pass the test will be issued with
a “Pass Safety Check” label. Items that fail the test will be
reported, taken out of service and be labelled with a “Danger: Do
not use” tag. If the item in question requires minor repairs e.g.
plug top, leads, incorrect fuses, (providing this does not
contravene warranties or contract service agreements) it will be
repaired on site or passed on to ETS’s workshop, if so
requested.
A complete accurate asset register is then returned to the
client stating full details of the items and its location in the
installation.
